Skin Microbiome, The community of microorganisms and their genetic material that co-create the environment of the skin's surface.
The community of microorganisms and their genetic material that co-create the environment of the skin's surface. In cosmetology and trichology, the meaning of this term always depends on the context: location, symptoms, duration of the problem, products used, and individual tolerance.
Understanding the concept helps to better comprehend cosmetic descriptions, specialist recommendations, and the mechanisms occurring in the skin or hair. However, it does not mean that identifying a single element on your own is sufficient to choose a therapy.
It is not worth evaluating a product, ingredient, or procedure solely based on the popularity of a buzzword. Formulation, concentration, method of use, contraindications, and skin condition are what matter. Introduce changes one by one and observe the reaction.
If the problem is severe, recurring, causes pain, intense itching, inflammation, sudden hair loss, or a noticeable change in skin appearance, consult a dermatologist. A cosmetologist or trichologist can support your skincare and refer you to an appropriate specialist.
This entry was prepared by Justyna Broda, cosmetologist and trichologist. The material is educational and does not replace a diagnosis.
