Comedogenicity, The tendency of a product or ingredient to promote the formation of comedones under specific test conditions.
The tendency of a product or ingredient to promote the formation of comedones under specific test conditions. In cosmetology and trichology, the meaning of this term always depends on the context: location, symptoms, duration of the problem, products used, and individual tolerance.
Understanding the term helps to better comprehend cosmetic descriptions, specialist recommendations, and the mechanisms occurring in the skin or hair. However, it does not mean that independent recognition of one element is sufficient to select a treatment.
It is not advisable to evaluate a product, ingredient, or procedure solely based on the popularity of a term. Formulation, concentration, method of use, contraindications, and skin condition are all important. Introduce changes one by one and observe the reaction.
If the problem is severe, recurring, causes pain, intense itching, inflammation, sudden hair loss, or a significant change in skin appearance, consult a dermatologist. A cosmetologist or trichologist can support skin care and refer you to the appropriate specialist.
