Biofilm, An organized community of microorganisms embedded in an extracellular matrix they produce.
An organized community of microorganisms embedded in an extracellular matrix they produce. In cosmetology and trichology, the meaning of this term always depends on the context: the site of occurrence, symptoms, duration of the problem, products used, and individual tolerance.
Understanding the concept helps to better comprehend cosmetic product descriptions, specialist recommendations, and the mechanisms occurring in the skin or hair. However, it does not mean that self-diagnosis of a single element is sufficient to choose a therapy.
It is not advisable to evaluate a product, ingredient, or procedure based solely on the popularity of the term. Formulation, concentration, method of use, contraindications, and skin condition are what truly matter. Introduce changes one by one and observe the reaction.
If the problem is severe, recurrent, causes pain, intense itching, inflammation, sudden hair loss, or a noticeable change in the skin's appearance, consult a dermatologist. A cosmetologist or trichologist can support your skincare routine and refer you to an appropriate specialist.
This entry was prepared by Justyna Broda, a cosmetologist and trichologist. The material is for educational purposes only and does not replace a diagnosis.
