Hydrolipid barrier, A common term for epidermal structures and lipids that help retain water and protect the skin.
A common term for epidermal structures and lipids that help retain water and protect the skin. In cosmetology and trichology, the meaning of this term always depends on the context: location, symptoms, duration of the problem, products used, and individual tolerance.
Understanding the concept helps to better comprehend cosmetic product descriptions, specialist recommendations, and the mechanisms occurring in the skin or hair. However, it does not mean that identifying a single element on your own is sufficient to select a treatment.
It is not worth judging a product, ingredient, or procedure solely based on the popularity of the term. Formulation, concentration, method of use, contraindications, and skin condition are what matter. Introduce changes one by one and observe the reaction.
If the problem is severe, recurrent, causes pain, intense itching, inflammation, sudden hair loss, or a noticeable change in skin appearance, consult a dermatologist. A cosmetologist or trichologist can support skincare and refer you to the appropriate specialist.
